I just got a new pullet on Monday. She is a RIR & her feathers are not full like my other hens yet, has some downy looking feathers still. The last 3 nights while on the roost she has dropped a paper thin egg & a lot of liquid? Is this normal in a hen when starting to lay? Stress from the new location? She is seems heathy, eats & drinks & pecks & hunts. Just wonder if I should give her some time or contact where I got her from for a new pullet. Thanks in advance for helping this newbie out. Btw my layer feed has calcium but I also put out crushed shells.

Yep this is perfectly normal for a new layer, if she keeps on doing this for more than a month then you might want to get her checked out, or add some calcium to her diet, but other than that it's perfectly normal for new layers, until they get the pattern down. :)

Do you have any idea how old she really is?

Any bird of laying age shouldn't have any 'downy feathers'.
Can you post a pic?

The thin shells could be stress related to the move.
What are you feeding her?

This is what I have been feeding them, plus veggie scraps & free ranging in yard.

Only had her since Monday.

Here are a couple pics of her back & wing.
Not sure of exact age.
That's a new feather growing in.

Feed looks OK, might want to cut back on the veggies or add some animal protein, takes lots of protein to grow new feathers and make eggs.

Just feed her good and give her some time, a week's not long...... she's still adjusting to new place and food.
Might want to make separate container of oyster shell available if she wants it.

Oh thank you... I just bought 2000 meal worms, I'll feed her more & add some scrambled eggs.

I'm happy to report that my new lill hen laid a hard shelled egg today.... In the nesting box!! Her favorite protein treat is a tablespoon of canned salmon (no salt added) that I found in my pantry. 10% calcium too! She loves it
