I have gone through the postings about the paper wasp infestations, but the one thing I didn't see, was what can be used safely around not just my chickens, but my other outdoor birds. They nest in the aviaries In the corners and crevices of the roofs as well as my house and even my vehicles. Please if anyone knows of something I can use because I can not remove some of the birds from their pens.

Use ordinary dish detergent in a spray bottle. Hit them when it's cool so they can't come after you. Detergents are generally safe around larger animals, but the coat an insects body and either suffocate them or outright poison them.

Sevin and pyrethrins are fine around chickens; The wasps die in winter here ion Michigan, so not a big deal. If they are alive, go at night with a flashlight and get the nests sprayed while they are inside. Do you have the little nests on a tiny base, or the big nests with a wide base? The little ones are easy to spray and remove. Mary

Here in northern California they also die off, but the weather being very accommodating this year for all insects, they are nesting early. I have both small and larger nests. I have grown my flock and spend much more time with my birds now. These little buggers got to go.

Since I used to be allergic to wasps, until I took shots forever .... I do 2 things, i bought a fake wasp nest online and sprayed with clear sealer to make them last longer...2 for 10.00 and put one in my barn and one in my birds aviary. They are supposed to deter other wasps.... never had wasps in birds aviary.... and cut the ones inthe barn about 75%. AND, I spray that 25 ft. wasp spray in the corners where they like to build in my barn, or spray any mixed bug killer with a sprayer before they build (like behind my shutters on my front door...and that usually works for a year or sometimes 2. I also spray light fixtures and plug fixtures , especially around any door ways.
