Right now, I have been given a vitamin regimen to put my silkie pullet on...it's 400 iu's of vitamin E twice daily...just clip the end off the tablet and put on a small piece of bread...and 1/2ml of poly vi sol per day. My pullet is still eating and drinking fine. The vitamin therapy seems to be halting the progress but I'm not sure that she is getting better. I have switched everyone to layena and have put vitamins in all waterers. It doesn't seem to have any effect. I have a polish cockeral who can't control his neck...I'm going to have my husband euthanize when he gets home. I hate the word cull!
Thanks for the information on thiamine deficiancy. I am going to research further. However, the pullet that died and has been necropsied was eaten alive by tumors...lungs, liver, reproductive tract...all tumor filled. The only thing not effected was her nerves, seems they were normal. The only small ray of hope in all of this.
How do you get more thiamine into them? Just more vitamins?
