We don't use any fertilizer, but she may have gotten into some stagnent rain water... I have given them all some lawn trimmings to play in, and she might have gotten a hold of something in there. She could have been bitten by a snake or spider.
Spiders that are in Michigan:
Wolf spiders,
garden spiders, (harmless to humans, not sure about chickens)
fishing spiders,
and Brown Recluse are some I know off the top of my head...
Here is a list of snakes that are found in Michigan:
Michigan Species
Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta)
Blue Racer (Coluber constrictor foxi)
Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi)
Butler's Garter Snake (Thamnophis butleri)
Common Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis)
Copper-bellied Water Snake (Nerodia erythrogaster neglecta)
Eastern Hog-nosed Snake (Heterodon platirhinos)
Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus catenatus)
Eastern Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum)
Fox Snake (Elaphe vulpina and Elaphe gloydi)
Kirtland's Snake (Clonophis kirtlandii)
Northern Ribbon Snake (Thamnophis sauritus septentrionalis)
Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)
Queen Snake (Regina septemvittata)
Red-bellied Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata)
Ring-necked Snake (Diadophis punctatus edwardii)
Smooth Green Snake (Liochlorophis vernalis)
(BOLDED = Toxic)
Could any of these done this to her?
