Paranoid mama worried about her duck

@cheezenkwackers and @indianaducks

As a duckling she looked different from what an appleyard duckling looks like. This is cocos first day with us. We initially thought it was a mallard. Quick question arent they supposed to have a green head if they are male in some species like rouen and appleyaed

males don’t always have green heads, my khaki campbell boy usually only has a green head like 6 months out of the whole year

here he is at different times of this year lol

Hello everyone. My rouen duck is around 3 months old and is quite big. Way bigger than my pekin and black swedish. She grew suddenly in a week eventhough she was the weak one. She is unable to quack too. Any idea if this growth is normal. She looks like an adult duck already.
Probably a drake if not quacking. You can sex them by their voice a lot sooner than by their coloring (green head like you mentioned) eventually if male he should develop a sex feather on his butt and one or two will curl. Also this is definitely not a Rouen. Maybe saxony?looks like a possible mix honestly. Which is fine!! He/she is beautiful either way

Saxony ducklings have brown winged eyes as ducklings and their adult color is "Buff Trout" just like your duck. Rouens as ducklings display the standard "Mallard" color and Silver Appleyards are "Silver Mallard" in coloring. As far as quacking I would wait for a definite quack, croaky rasp or tail curl before deciding. I have a hen who is 3 years old, I've maybe heard her quack 4-5 times and yes she is 100% a laying hen who I use as one of my breeders.
