Parasite in duck eggs

That’s great news !! Wonder what it was that you saw. Keep us updated on the hatch.
How many of your eggs were fertile ?
I currently have a staggered hatch going mine are day 24,23,20,19,18,17 I have two incubators going to separate them for lockdown
Hoping to do it in pairs if they all cooperate lol
and sorry for the rant/essay, lol

We are here to lean on each other and learn together
This is my first time hatching as well so I’m not sure.
Every thing I have read says safe to open the lid until external pip so you should be able to still turn the other one
The humidity is the only concern. They do need it higher once the external pip but not as much before. Maybe slowing adjust it up over the next few days till you see external pip ? There is so many conflicts on what’s the best humidity it’s confusing. I Don’t think any of them are wrong just depends on your climate And season to be honest. I Asked the lady I got my drake from and she does 65 for hatch. I’m in Alberta Canada
My oldest egg has shadowing for the last 30 hours but I don’t see the beak yet I stopped turning it as soon as I saw that so I dong mess up the position thing. Luckily I’m able to move the other eggs over but I will still have some issue with a few not ready for higher humidity
Could you put the incubator in a bathroom where there is a shower ? I have mine in one so if I do need ti open the lid to add an egg I can start the shower ahead and let it run to gain humidity and heat in the room this was the best I could think of
Keep me posted I’m pulling for you and the two little ones :)

I like your idea of using a humid room! It isnt really an option for me, but I have a window in the incubator to check for external pips before opening- Everything looks great and ready for the older egg, my only worry is the younger, but I may try what you mentioned and raise the humidity slowly until the first signs of an external pip! The humidity here in England is neither here nor there, when I open the incubator it drops to about 45%, and if all the humidity escapes it can drop to 40% or just under.
I guess we're learning together! Keep me updated on your hatches! I have my fingers crossed for you! :fl

Thank you 😊
Would be really cool if we hatched the same day.
My female duck had built this nest and was sitting on them at night but not at all in the day
I removed 11 of her eggs and replaced with chicken non fertile eggs so I didn’t upset her. Them fir a week I would take the new egg
That’s how I got a staggered hatch. Out of the first 11 only the one from that morning grew the others didn’t ( possibly cause she sat at night and then they got cold all day ) then out of the one a day only 5 took
I was advised it’s best just to empty her nest as she could end up sitting on duds and that wouldn’t be good. She is a Pekin duck and many say they don’t go broody. Well she rebuilt a nest the next morning and started to lay again on day 5 of eggs she started to sit in the day as well but still laid for 3 more days. A total of 8 eggs. It’s now been 12 days of fully sitting 23.5 hours a day and 2 days of 75% of the time ( I have a camera with motion director to watch her ) I candled her eggs 2 days ago and could only find 7 eggs but all 7 were growing
I had to separate my drake from her as he wants to mate still and she doesn’t. The room they are in I was able to put up a pet fence that allows him to see her but not get her. He sits beside her nesting box a lot. They are spoiled ducks and in the house in the winter. I have a kid pool set up in my laundry room for them lol
My girl will only leave her nest when I go down in the morning and evening. I even tried not going down as my usual time and she still didn’t come out. She takes a quick swim then eats and drinks and right back on her nest. After a week of sitting she started to pluck feathers and line the nest. She also started to cover them when she leaves. She is doing amazing so far. But my boy is hardly eating and loosing weight. The vet said extra spoil him with pasta and rice meals during their time apart. I only have the two ducks as we lost her sister in October ( we had an autopsy done and she had ate a penny ) high amounts of zinc are lethal to ducks. We don’t have pennies but they dig in the ground and she must have found one in there.
Im
About to check my eggs now :)

You sound like a good duck mum! I hope your drake starts to feel better soon!
If both of mine hatch safely, that'll leave me with two ducks. Hopefully the same sex, and then my plan is to adopt a couple more ducklings asap or ducks at a later stage since there arent many around this time of year.
I love how spoilt yours are! Mine will likely be indoors until spring/once it starts to warm up, so it'll be lots of diy to build a duck room with a little pool. I think when they're able to move outside and have all that space and water, they'll freak out, lol.
Mine came from a project, I've always wanted to incubate eggs, didn't have much luck with my first incubation of shipped eggs. So, having the incubator to hand and it being pretty cold to order more eggs, I bought a bunch of store bought eggs as an experiment to see if any were fertile. None of the chicken eggs developed, as expected, but one duck egg did, so I bought some more and got another healthy growing baby.
Through research I found that they're an aylesbury cross, and I'm pretty certain they're cross pekin. I'm hoping for healthy hatches!

That is so cool. I also tried chicken eggs from a store just to see. My stores don’t have duck eggs here. My ducks are beyond spoiled lol
I built them an insulated duck house with a window that opens as well as venting at the top that they use spring , fall and summer. I also put a heater in their outdoor pond when it gets colder but still nice enough for them to live outdoors. They have a pen area I fenced in and a built in pond that was here when we moved in this place. I cleaned it up and put that fake grass all around it so the pond wouldn’t be full of muddy waters all the time. They also come into the bigger yard a lot when the dogs are inside as my ducks bite my dogs abd I worry the dog could snap one day right now she runs as fast as she can away when she sees the ducks lol
The ducks have their own bedroom in my basement that I put tarps down and taped them so easy to clean up. I put some straw in there and they never use it. They like to lay on the floor instead. Probably helps to keep it cooler.ths room is divided right now because he wants to mate still and she doesn’t but they usually have the whole room and when I’m down here I let them run the basement The nesting box is very large as it was a travel dog crate for large dog on flights. I cut out the side and used hardware cloth so she can see out and MR peep can see her as he lays beside that window non stop. The kid pool I made a hole and attached a drain to it so I can open the plug and it drains into my drain in the floor. Easy to clean and get fresh water I’ll show a few pictures of my set up
The picture of miss daisy is today. She always has to come beside me to clean herself off after her bath and peep gets to chill upstairs and watch tv so he isn’t so lonely with her being busy peep developed angel Wing and we tried along with the vet to correct it but he wouldn’t cooperate and keep his bandages on
He gets around fine and doesn’t seem to affect him. We don’t mind we love him just the way he is :)

Yes day 25has much larger shadowing and egg 24 started to shadow a little now. Still not seeing a beak in the air pocket but can see them both moving through it
The other 4 eggs are doing good
Once I see the shadow and the air pocket dips down I stopped turning so they can get in position. Only day 25 Is on lockdown with higher humidity. I will move egg 24 tomorrow
Both these eggs are very small the size of a chicken egg so I’m very worried. Her eggs got bigger as they went. The ones she is nesting on are a lot bigger
Day 25 &24 were 2.1 and 2.2 ounces when I started. The other 4 are 2.3 and 2.4 ounces
I didn’t weigh the ones she is on but they look larger then any of these ones
She has been laying for 4 months so I thought this was her normal size.
How are your little ones this morning ?
Ps. I named egg 25 Minnie cause it’s so small

aww cute name! Both my eggs are a little on the small side, both larger than a chicken egg but slightly smaller than a typical duck egg, the younger egg is a little larger, I'm pretty sure they were laid by younger birds.
I think we'll be okay though! I've heard of eggs on the small side being successfully hatched and quickly caught up once in the brooder. I'm no expert, but that's what I've heard from several people. Hopefully both of ours will be okay!
I have my fingers crossed for Minnie and day 24!!
Mine are doing okay! I'm starting to doubt that the first is internally pipped, I double checked this morning, and he's doing great, and I can see his beak very clearly, but it looked like it was just underneath pushing the membrane, clear shadowing. Can't hear any peeping. Not turning anymore of course, and will lockdown tomorrow as planned. I'm hoping to hear some peeps soon!! I'm just glad he's in position and gearing up to hatch!

That’s great news. Knowing he is in the correct end is a huge worry gone.
Both of us will have a lockdown baby on the same day !!:)
I have high hopes for both of us and our little ones
