Parasite preventatives ?

We have been adding some diatomaceous earth to the chicken coop wood shaving bedding, hopefully that might help some, any other ideas for preventing parasites in chickens ? We will be doing some free ranging with our flock in limited areas of the yard.

Occasionally inspect them for lice/mites. Set up an annual worming program using valbazen and safeguard.

Are Lice/Mites easy to spot on chickens, where do you usually find them ... under the wings..etc ?
