Pardon me while I whine

NOT being a pain in the butt - but the more you let it rule your day, the worse it is. FIGHT IT! Get the psyche going, don't let it win. I fought it all day, Yep, I'm paying the piper now. But by golly, a BC Powder and bed will do it. I stopped all the pain meds years ago, best decision I've ever made.

My sis is addicted to Vicodin/hydrocodone. No way I'm following that path.

CityGirl? Did you have fun in Italy?

Ooooo... you are the speed limit.

Italy was fabulous! I'm sure I overdid it, but our time was short and there were things to see! I keep posting pics over on the thread I started before I left. I hate to inundate everyone, but it was gorgeous. We were walking 8-10 hours a day, so I felt it in my knees and ankles for sure. Italy is all uphill also. Lots of stairs and hills. It explains why everyone is in really great shape!

I am so hesitant to use the hardcore pain relievers. I have really happy drugs in there from my last kidney stone. I'm sure they would make it all feel better, but I just can't bring myself to pull them out. The Aleve is making the heat and swelling go down, so it wins for now. The remecaid is what allows me to lead a normal life. It has really rotten long term side effects, but it does allow me a normal life right now. It is a trade off, you know?

The joints seem better when I am moving around as long as I am not going up and down stairs. I've been walking today as much as I can. I just worry about doing real permanent damage. Getting out of bed in the morning is wretched. I have to hold on to the bed like an old woman. Thankfully it has warmed up here, so I am not hauling water out to the chickens. The hose has finally thawed (first time in months!). I am not going to be a happy camper if these old bones mess up my chicken tending!

I used to manage with BC arthritis strength, until they ate a hole in my stomach.
My new doctor, nearly fresh out of medical school, says the judicious use of prescription pain meds. is safer than long term use of OTCs.
I can go a month or more without needing a single pain med, just by sucking it up and going on. When I do need them though I'm very thankful to have doctor that's not afraid to prescribe.

Have you tried Biofreeze?I buy it at the chiropractors, it works great on my old bones and I don't have to kill myself taking pain meds.

That is what my MD has said. He would rather have someone on a narcotic rather than chronic use of ibuprofen.

Plus there's been some studies done that suggest that while your body is busy dealing with chronic pain, cancer cells can sneak in the back door,so to speak. Doctors are looking at chronic pain with new eyes. Better to control the pain and keep the body as healthy as possible in all other ways, than to let the overall health suffer by expecting someone to "suck it up", live in misery and die young from the complications of years and years of OTC pain reliever use. Just because they're sold over the counter doesn't mean they are completely harmless. At least the doctor can control how much Rx painkillers you take. Not so with the OTCs.

Sorry CityGirl, didn't mean to hijack.
