Parents, Is it too much? Rant... Kinda... Update post #29

I had people say things like that to me when I was pregnant. It always made me hackle up a little too. I mean, does having a baby mean your normal life ends? Well, yeah kinda LOL!! However if you want chickens, then get them. I was one of these people that thought having my daughter would mean the end of anything normal, or doing anything for myself. But I was wrong!! I still got my chickens, still took care of all my animals, including a 9 month old puppy when my DD was born. It wasn't the end of what I wanted to do, rather the adjustment of doing what I want with my daughter in mind. Took me a while to find a good balance, but eventually I have. Good luck

Yah, I tend to let people walk all over me. Last night Bill told me I need to just blow and tell her off, that that is the only way she will ever respect me, but I'm just not like that, and I don't want to cause a rift between us. It upsets him that I don't stick up for myself.

Oh well, I think I'm just gonna wait until next spring to do the chicken thang.... Plus in a few months MIL is gonna go out to her Orchard and see baby 3 emu's staring back at her, LOL.

There is a saying."strike while the iron is hot." Last time you spoke with MIL, she agreed you could have chickens, so proceed to order them and have dh acquire or begin building the coop. Next time the chickens are mentioned, forestall any naysaying by telling MIL that they will be here X and X day, and you so hope that she likes the ones you have chosen. Since it is MIL's property, get her opinion on paint choices for the coop.

If water lines are present, an automatic waterer will make care tons easier. Likewise large quantity feeders.

LOL, She told me if I left them on the Ranch, she would eat them..... But Money talks (Especially in DH's Family) and Emu Chicks bring good money, or if we raise them out the eggs and chicks would bring good money too.

*lightbulb*

get MIL a couple of chicks when you get yours. Make sure they will be different than yours and call them HERS .

its her mother, stressing her out. my mom was batty the last 2 yrs of my GMAs life. . . sad but true.

she wants chickens, wants you to have them but can't fathom the thought that you will be too ( busy, tired ect) to care for them and it will be one more thing on her property for HER to deal with.
