Partially unhatched chicken - What do do???

The little chick finally is hatched. We had to help him a little here and there. He has been chirping a lot. He is still tired. When it came out you could see the placenta was still attached to the egg shell. You can still see it around the stomach too. I hope that makes sense. I email pics to MuranoFarms to post for me.

The chick is moving around but not fully standing/walking strongly on it's feet. It also flips over intermittently but us able to get back on its feet. It is drinking water too.

Is there anything else we should/can be doing?

Yay!!! so glad we have a happy ending..keeping finger crossed though!

You can put vitamins in its water. I use either poultry drench or poli-vi-sol with OUT Iron. You can give him some pedilyte in the water if you have it on hand, or I'll put a pinch of sugar in the water for the first day or so.

Thanks!

This has definitely been a learning experience for my hubby and I. We already have full-grown hens (3) and 1 rooster that we raised from chicks. We also have a miniature horse. We never hatched before. My husband built an incubator for these eggs weeks ago.

Can/should I put a little stuffed animal in the incubator for the chick to snuggle up too?

Yeah glad it got out! The umbilical area should seal up and go away. Yes you can give it a stuffed animal. I have had 2 lone chicks before and they love their stuffed "mommies" How is the chick doing today?? I hope it keeps getting stronger!

Congrats! You did great.

The chick looks like it will be just fine. Did you have any others hatch?

ETA: A stuffed animal is a great idea to add to the brooder. He/she really should have a brooder buddy or two.

There is one egg left but I believe it is a dud. We had 4 eggs and the one that hatched was the only one we ever saw move.

I put a stuffed animal in and added sugar to the chicks water. It's stomach also looks much better and I guess is closing up. You see more fur then anything.

Thanks
