Partner has told me the chickens have to go

I have been successfully married for 33 years. I take my husband's concerns and worries seriously. He does the same for me. We are people, and put the important people in my family as top priority, considerably higher than chickens.

However, in relationships, often times it is something else that is causing the problem or worries, and a little thing like chicken noise can be the proverbial last straw. If this came out of nowhere, then there very well may be another issue. If he has been for sometime, unhappy with all the aspects of chickens then you may have to make the decision as to what is most important to you.

Try talking to your land lord. He may not care if your hens sing and tell your neighbor to mind their own business!
This is what I would do as well. If the landlord knows you have chickens and doesn't mind, why should he/she care about what the neighbors think about a little chicken noise? Now, if your landlord does not know about your hens, and you are violating your lease agreement by having them, you might have a problem should the neighbor make a complaint.

Is the landlord aware you have chickens? If so, speak to the landlord (I'd save the eggs for the landlord - the h*ll with the neighbor). Anyway, unless the neighbor is some sort of kissing cousin to the landlord (in which case your SO might be on the right track :( ) I'd speak with the landlord, first (can you have a little `barky' dog?).

Does your neighbor perhaps work nights? This might be why he is cranky about the egg song. Bottom line is, you have to do what works in your relationship. Take care of that first. After that, if it is legal to have chickens where you live, and if they don't violate your lease, you are within your rights to have chickens even if they do sing. In a sub division, or any neighborhood, noise happens, be it lawn mowers, dogs, playing children, music, leaf blowers or chickens. It would be nice if we could all demand peace and quiet, but, I can't even get that in my own house with 2 children! That's why they make ear plugs. Love them!
