Partridge penedesenca behaviors

I purchased a partridge penedesenca chick in April amongst 9 other chicks to start my flock. I thought the breed was pretty and would compliment the others well. Usually she’s very aloof and flighty.

This weekend she started charging the children. She even pecked my friends’ son on the ankle and broke the skin. I tried to get the whole story because it seemed so out of character for her. She did it again to my daughter today. Rather than run the other way she is charging at them and pecking.

I had another pullet start doing that and i tried the pecking back method and that took care of it. Because it’s not when i am around i have not been able to test it.

They free range from 5pm to dusk during the week and longer when we r home on the weekends. Because her breed tends to be more of a free ranger should she be out more? Or is it more likely she is establishing herself in the pecking order with the children?

It's a dominance thing....and/or 'protecting' the flocks space thing.
The pecking back thing can help the human establish their dominance,
but kids might not get how to do that.
How old are these kids?
Kids' boisterous activity and loud squeaky voices can put any bird on guard,
if you don't have a cock/erel a hen may take charge as flock protector.
Breed may have something to do with it, but not necessarily.
