Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

are u driving? ill be there satuerday to i was going to show myself to but something came up and i cant but cant wait to see whats going to be there
Yes we are driving.

Jamie only brought won silkie and it won champion bantam feathered leg I believe. Grand champion of show was his toulouse gander. His geese are better than his silkies IMO. He keeps some REALLY nice birds.

so he did great again cant wait to see his birds how did ur little pullet do in the pic below she looks very nice

She was BV. So many people have Jamie's lines here in white. I don't think I'll stand a chance if I don't get into the whites, and buy his breeders come spring.
congratz and i agree his birds are great and if alot of people have his birds ur going to need them i know and hear of people having them way up hear in ontario

Noticed a lot of the roosters seem to have the brighter red orange and the hens more muted with dark heads. Is the colouring connected to the sex or just coincidental?

I ask as I have an 8 week old looking very much the lighter colour with dark head and wondered if that increased my chances it's a girl?

yes partridge is a sexable color, the males and females are colored differently and by the time they feather in completely you should know if you have a boy or girl. Males tend to be brighter, but only the males will have the rusty orange/red colors on them - females may have shades of orange or red, but not that rusty tone to the shoulders/back like a male...Males will have little penciling, where females can get a lot of penciling at an early age all over the body.

partridge comes in a wide variety of shades, so its not a one color fits type thing... Reg. partridge are much easier to sex than say blue partridge or diluted/washed out colored birds which have washed out patterns and so little to no penciling to be a guide to sexing...

Picture below is of a 11/12 week old cockerel :
note the wheatish orange color on the neck, and the rusty red on the shoulders : this to me tells me its definitely a boy

This one gave me a horrible time because he looked SO girly in type but he started to get the rust in his chest and shoulders, and sure enough a few weeks later after this picture tried crowing for the first time.

This one while really chestnut red, is a girl notice how shes red all over and has a pattern to her, that penciling is an obvious girl thing and how evened out the coloring is.

This is a boy that has good penciling in his body but note the bright orange and rusty shades in the neck and shoulders : boy trait

these 3 birds that are easiest seen in this picture note how they are more muted and have that pattern to their whole body and lack any rusty red/orange in the neck or shoulders/back area : girls

This little one is already giving me rusty colours in the wings. Boy? ;) Noticed as well that he has that male beak. Oh and his hatch mate here is more muted and girly

Thank you!!

Firstly, hope Ive got it right and this is a Partridge Silkie? I was told the markings on its frizzly siblings made them Partridge so guessing this one is the same.

Ive got a couple of photos from when she (Penny for now) was 7 weeks, the head is a little puffier and more noticably darker than the rest now though.

and just cause I couldnt resist :)

She/He is more of a golden colour where its brightest than red. Just too darn cute whatever it is LOL but would appreciate your opinion. We already have one suspected Roo so crossing fingers Penny stays a girl.

She looks similar in colouring to my smutty buff girl (or buff partridge...? still not sure) was at that age.
