Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

In the pics of mine, the bottom one doesn't look partridge. I don't know what's going on. It's in the mother's line. I'm going to find out what happens in the next generation.

The other line produces very nice partridge, even if some of the boys are the orange that shows up in the partridge silkies. I personally prefer the darker boys, but some people prefer light ones.

i know in some colours you have to occasionally breed back to solids to avoid them washing out over generations, check out the explanation on this page--http://thefancychick.com/redorpington.html (the paragraph just above the heading about eye colour,) this may apply to yours too

The orange roosters seem to be a stable variant. My oldest male is orange and he has both orange and dark sons. I'll find out this year if the dark males throw orange sons.

I was surprised to get partridge out of my white hen x porcelain rooster. Pretty dark color too. I have only done two hatches with the first a test hatch of two eggs and both were roosters. This hatch I set 3 more eggs and got another partridge out of my white hen. The other two chicks are out of my lavender and porcelain hen, so those other two are lavender and porcelain. I think the new partridge chick is a pullet. With this line the girls are skittish and the boys mellow sweethearts.

remember this baby? well here he is now, what colour would he be considered? if he were a cat i would say tortoise shell-his dad was a paint and mom a partridge -could he still be considered a partridge?

On feathersite.com's Silkie page there is a photo of a Tortoise Silkie. This guy of yours still looks Partridge because of the definitive dark head and tail feathers. I love Partridge boys - they are so beautiful in the sunshine.

that 'tortie' one looks a lot like the 'leaky' one in the paint article http://www.chickencolours.com/Translation Dutch paint articleX.pdf (on page 7)
my only concern is if i entered him in a show he would not qualify for the colour. his brother is far better in every way except he has two little 'horn spikes' and i believe that disqualifies him in american show rules. i have no idea what his colour is but he was not from the partridge hen but has the same father

I've come to the conclusion there is no "perfect" show bird. Every judge's review will like something about a bird but usually finds something that could be improved. Since judging is subjective go ahead and show your birds. You could be surprised. A DQ could be so minor in a judge's subjective eyes that your birds will still show well! GL!

We we're given this 2 month old fellow, along with a black. She just had too many roosters...
We've not named him yet, but he's soo sweet and compliant to his new chickenmama, and her cleaning and preening.

I hope you love your Partridge boy when he's all grown up. We kept our sweet boy as long as we could before his crowing got annoying -- we weren't zoned for roos. But we kept his Partridge sister and then got a Black pullet to have 2 Silkies toodling around the yard. The Partridge and Black are my favorite colors for backyard free-ranging. We had a White Leg that would get dingy yellow and stained so we no longer get White chickens for the yard.
