Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Pics
Just from what I can see she is very pretty. The only thing that I can see is that her color may be a little light. If you read the standard it calls for a darker crest. She is more of the bright partridge that we were discussing earlier. There are links on this post to the standards. But since I can't see her toes and feet I am assuming that they were correct. She is such a little cutie. I just want to pick her up and kiss her. Was she beat out by another partridge?

Gosh~~I hate that I'm sooooo far behind on this brand new thread !!! dag-gone weather still hasn't really cleared up

Pennie~~your ponderings about the different "color" Partridges~~ideally, we should be breeding for the color explained in the SOP. Since Partridge is a very difficult color to perfect, you end up with alot of "off" colors that are still very beautiful. Those off colors are labeled by individual breeders, i.e. buff partridge, wheat partridge, etc. Those off color Partridges can still be shown as AOV.

Just speaking from my experiences with the shows I'm able to attend in my area---some judges don't even "like" to judge Silkies....and when it comes to the Partridge color, they're really thrown for a loop. So, even if your Partridge is not the perfect color (as stated in SOP) you can show them as Partridge, and if there are not other Partridges of correct color, you can still win. I have a couple that are not the ideal color, but wonderfully typey---I show them too.

As for blue---I don't breed them, but I believe GM stated that you should breed Lavender to Partridge to come up with the ideal "blue"....

Yipee! Partridge silkies!!! My very very favorite!!!

Here are our 2. My kids show them. They aren't perfect by any means, but they are so gentle and easy for my kids to handle.

Your rooster doesn't move much does he? LOL. Not a real ham for the camera.

Have you ever seen a non - SOP partridge win over one that's much closer to what is actually in the standard? That would be a shame unless they are going by the standard from England (private joke). I mean, if that's the case, what good is the standard? We may as well throw it out of the window. Has anyone ever gotten DQ'd from the partridge variety because of the color being bad? There can be a million "off" colors, and they may be good for breeders to the right bird, but that doesn't mean they are SQ, does it? No wonder it's a variety that is so hard to work on. Nobody knows what a SQ partridge should be. What do you think?

My roo is a total ham. He is so kind and friendly. He struts and comes over for a head scratch. I would like a better quality pair for show purposes with the kids. For now they show at fairs... So it doesn't much matter. My son would like to go to bigger shows. The problem then Is $$. Single mom yadda yadda. So we'll just have to wait. My daughter drives her chair around with a chicken on it allllllllll the time.
