Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

I know I am trying to plan ahead.

Yes, she is a dark partridge and CatDance breeding. Here is a long back low tail shots of her at 4 months:

Yes, I think her babies (the older hen) are better than she is, which is what I am striving for. The 4 months olds are 1/2 CatDance. The other halves are mixtures of people I have met at shows here in Central Texas that show very successfully, so actual "show stock" offspring. I am trying to "train" my eye and keep my ears open the best way I can. Of course reading all the silkie threads and viewing pictures helps me tremendously.

I am training my eye also, and she sure looks good to me. I happen to really like the dark Partridge coloring...

I would give the 4 month old ones a bit more time - it looks like they might shape up as they get older.

Thank you for the earlier pictures of your nice girl - there is just a slight difference in the way she holds her tail from your others - notice the "up" in the second shot?

I have some 2 month olds that show that - their mother has super great stance and a nice high tail, I am hoping she passed that on to her children. The other hen's children show the down tail like their mothers, so we will see.

Sonoran and ChickenNMamma these are the hens/pullets I have to breed to him (or is he good enough to do this?).

4 month old hatch mate

Two year old hen (that's her daughters above and below)

Another 4 month old hatch mate

10 month old pullet (she used to have a flatter back and tail when she was younger - now she always looks like she is posing so I am hopeful for the young ones)
This looks like the best girl

The 4 month old boy that I am hoping to use in a partridge only pen.
Nice colouring, and he is very typey, although his legs could be more centered

Thank you ChickNMamma and Sonoran for comments! She is one of my best!

I really like all the shades of partridge. ChickNMamma that is the one you like as a two or three day old chick in my avatar - i would have sworn she was going to be a silver partridge. I agree 4 months is too early but I am hoping for good results. I really like the size and roundness of the two hatchmates' cushions. You can't tell it from the pictures, but the more golden girl has a good size crest that I am pretty pleased with also.

OK for my next batch of pictures.

I want to start a silver partridge/gray pen as well. These are 4 month olds also. I think these are all pullets (brownish coloring is from "dirt" baths or messy food). If I don't have any gray roosters (unless the last baby pictured below might be), what other color could I put them with, black?

This little girl (far right first picture) has been one of my very favorites from day of hatch. Her color has always baffled me. I have called her my little green head because she had a greenish coloring to her and now a pink cast to her wings and cushion. She is starting to get a soft gray to her back right before her cushion feathering starts. Also added lately is a gray colored collar. That brownish red on her front neck, throat, breast, and feet is messy food - she is pure white (so far) in those areas. Sonoran any ideas on her color and would she work in a gray pen or no?

I liked the looks of this little guy who I thought was gray (they get darker the older they get and he is only three months old), but it was mentioned he may be Columbian?

I don't know anything about Silver Partridge/Gray - but I agree - that one looks like Colombian. Very cute!

Just realized that one of my two silkies that arrived from mypetchicken yesterday is a silkie PARTRIDGE! We are so excited. She seems to be doing well. I will post a pic of her tomorrow. Love seeing your pictures of the older partridge pullets.

Partridges.

I was really tempted to get some chicks from a hatchery - until I learned I couldn't select only Partridge SIlkies - and that some would be bearded and some un-bearded. I want to start a line of un-bearded SQ Partridge Silkies. I love their intelligent faces on the un-bearded ones, but the hatchery ones are a bit too sparse in tail and head poof, and their feet are awful and they just don't stand right, at least the one I got and most pictures I have seen of them do not. I hope you got some good ones, but they will be great birds even if they aren't good quality - the sweetness comes through.

ChickNMamma how are yours doing? Weren't you having some problems with baby colors or something, or am I thinking of someone else? Have you taken any pictures recently? Sure would like to see some. Are you going to show at all?

That was me - and I figured out exactly what happened and I sold ALL of those chicks. I was hatching the eggs from my Partridge Rooster and a Silkie CROSS! NOT from my Partridge girl! I thought the light eggs were the Partridge and the darker ones were the Crosses - I had them backwards.

The ones that I am "working" on I just took a bunch of pictures to sell - I will post them here to show you.

Dawn (or Don) - I kept this one because of the unique coloration. I would prefer a girl because I think it would help in creating Partridge.. but I am suspecting a boy (red on wings)

These are the two white babies and the Blue mother and the Partridge Father. The one white is from the eggs I got with the Partridge pair, turned out to be from her White pen. Very nice um.. boy?

Two of the Buff Girls. I am keeping Peggy, not too sure about Lucy. Sure is a red-head and I am looking for streamers or a comb, but nothing yet.

This one is from my Blue Sizzle and my Partridge Rooster. She will be going.

This is the Buff Boy - definite boy! Streamers, wattles, comb - the whole nine yards - and legs like a tree trunk! He is lighter than Lucy is though...

Another picture of the White boy from the eggs I got. Very nice bird - I suspect male but I don't have any proof yet. Excellent foot feathering, great crest, good poofy tail - but WHITE!

The other one from my Sizzle - I got a black one and a Blue one.. both girls I suspect. Both going.

Goggles - the one I got from the egg from Brown Chicka Brown Cow is doing great - but I don't know if it is a boy or a girl - YET! The color is more in line with my Rooster - but I just learned that autosomnal red is not sex linked.. and the red color is all over this bird - not limited to just the wings/neck/chest. Its on the end of almost every feather - even the tail and underside... I have to get a new picture of it.

I was thinking that was you, but I read so much on here I was afraid once I spoke that I might have mis-spoke. That is terrible!!! That was the really nice partridge pair you drove like 3 hours to get right? Have you started any more eggs from them? My partridge girls lay the darkest eggs of all my silkies, even darker than my black.

I recently saw a picture of a soft colored partridge. Almost a pastel color, it was very pretty - I liked it a lot. Your Don/Dawn reminds me of that color. They change so much with their coloring though.

That white is a typey little one, that's for sure. I don't have any pure whites right now. I had a white chick pop out of nowhere one day, but lost it to predators.

Lucy could almost work with a red project. I know a lot of folks on here are always asking about "reds". Is she and the boy still pretty young? I bet they will get darker as they get older too. I think I can see some really dark patches on both of them.

Both sizzles are very cute!

Really? I thought it was. I think I even told someone that just recently. Oh, definitely! So, still a partridge though?
