Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Is there a chart that shows what you should get if you cross partridge to other colors, or what to breed for partridge? Like the one for blue/black/splash that I see a lot? Mainly, I wondering if I breed my partridge to a black hen (with a dad that had the partridge gene), will I get some black with gold leakage? Reason I'm asking is that I would have my black split lavenders hatching out also, and don't want to get other blacks mixed in. Am I safe to breed partridge to partridge and get all partridge? My female partridge is blue partridge. I'm not sure if my new roo is "normal" partridge, or blue partridge. I get different answers. Thanks!


My black pullet- she's all black. The pic makes her look brown in places.

It can also depend upon the background of your partridge (did he come from an all partridge background?) and your black (is she true black x black for several generations?) When I first started breeding partridge I was breeding parti to parti with the occasional white or buff cropping up in the babies. Now that my pens have been Parti x Parti for several generations I get partridge babies all of the time - or a blue partridge when I cross out to my blue parti girl. Beautiful birds, Pam!!

My black pullet- her dad was white, and her mom was blue splash- lol. Not sure with the new male, what his background is. I don't mind getting any other color, except for the black with gold or blue with gold leakage. Harder to rehome them. Thanks! Pam

Sorry to be such a pest, but I'm new to breeding Partridge. I would love to hatch out Silver Partridge. Can I breed anything to my roo (above) to get a silver? Thanks!

You will not see a chart for breeding Partridge to anything except Partridge. Even if you breed Parti to Parti you can get mixed colors because not all Partridges are really Partridge, many are mixed colors. Silver Partridge is Partridge with a Silver base instead of Gold - so you could get it by crossing to a bird that is silver based, the boys would be golden (silver and gold) and the girls would be Gold (from the father). F2 you would cross the Golden boys over the Silver based mothers. However - you have no way of knowing which of your birds are Silver based - so it could be 3 or 4 generations before you actually have Silver Partridge. Or.. it could be 2.. depends on what is hiding under your Blacks.. You will not be able to use your Gold boy to get Silver Partridge though - unless he is already Golden (Gold/Silver)..

Oh - and Black with red leakage and blue with red leakage is exactly what you will get by crossing Parti to Black or Blue. Your Hen's momma was not splash - or she would be blue.

Hmmmm. I did have one blue hen around that time, but I was thinking that she was gone when I collected the eggs to hatch (she was killed by a predator). So I had 2 splash, 1 blue. That was when I first started, before chicken math set in.

Now I have blue, black, splash, white, lavender, porcelain, partridge, and paint. Whew! _Pam

If you really have silver partridge then all the chicks will be white/brown chipmunk chicks (not gold or yellow/brown). However, genetics are mixed on most of these colors.. but ideally you will want to keep the white/brown ones and not the other colored ones. Do you have pictures of your adults? We love pictures...
