Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

We will be renting at first until we find the place we want so it probably isn't practical- but I'm heartbroken all the same. Oh, well if there is one thing I love it is hatching eggs and I'm keeping the incubators and will get going again when I'm settled. I know a lot more than I did the first time about building the coop/layout I want. Maybe I can even get someone to ship me eggs from my old girls next spring if I'm ready by then. I'll just have to make the best of new beginnings.

That is true, even though it's hard, always look at the positives. You'll hopefully be able to make that coop/run you are wanting and in the future, maybe get back some of your silkies chicks.

Good luck with the move and future plans, I hope they all go well for you!

Has anyone ever had a super light partridge Silkie?

My gold partridge female and pure white (recessive white based partridge) produce beautifully coloured partridge chicks.

The majority of the chicks have hatched from them have been the same colour as the mother.

However, these two were different. One has a black crest (which I'm happy about!) and is quite dark in colour and another is very light in colour.

I've seen partridges with a black crest and dark body but never one in the lighter colour.

Have any of you ever had a partridge as light as the smallest one here? It's 5 weeks old now if I'm remembering correctly without checking, the darker chick is 6!

I know lemon is a nomal colour for on partridges necks but almost all of this chick is lemon. I'm seriously in love with its colour!

I love the color. I need to hatch some of their eggs. It's likely that the rooster with them is carry a copy of lavender but I'm not sure. If not, with careful breeding I might get a few like them later on.

With the lavender being recessive, it can be a nasty surprise to show up in a breeding program. Much like white is.

Hopefully you end up with some more, it's definitely very pretty!

Neither of my light partridge's parents have lavender genes, I'm stumped at why it is almost all the lemon colour :idunno

Here are two of mine. I haven't thought up names for them yet, got the hen from a true free range place. She was a bit feral and had a lot of attitude for a silkie when I got her but she's calmed down now. Young roo is one of two from a batch of 5 youngsters I got. Thinking of keeping this one.

Hinotori- Thank you, I hadn't thought of lavender but you may be right on mine- she was hatched from shipped eggs but they did have a lavender roo among others and I got a champagne and what may ? have been a lavender splash roo (that found a new home long ago) from the same batch. Something dilute colored in that bloodline. I used to raise dogs and thought understood dog color genetics fairly well. I'm still learning on chickens- more complicated for sure. She has definite partridge patterning on wings- just super light coloring everywhere- except skin- she's got nice dark skin and comb. But she's not grayish blue like blue cream- more yellow undertones. She does look a lot like yours.
