Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Brody's Broodello :

Love all the names, but we have a tradition here. All Partridge hens are given a male name starting with the letter A. The first we every produced, Brody name Alvin, before we new she was not a he. Alvin, produced, Arthur & Andy. All we winners of BB's, & RB's. So to stay with the tradition, she'll have to have an A boy's name.

Aaron, Ace, Adrian, Aiden, Anthony, Archer, Asher, Aspen......

I have some chicks about that age. They are a little young to evaluate. I would wait a few weeks and maybe get some good side shots for the gurus to look at.

Yep. They are chicks.... It's really way too young for any decent evaluation. And you are right, the picture quality isn't the best.. Wait a while.

I like Alex. And she is a very beautiful bird. Is she going to CR?

OMG I haven't been on this forum in awhile and one of the first things I see is the absolutely gorgeous hen!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is WOW!

My friend named his female silkie by accident too with a male name and called him/her Axel. Funny how that happens b/c most times we name them a girls name and they wind up being a boy

She's been in the breeding pens, and now is making her debut as a show bird. I guess we'll have to come up with a name for her now! lol

Thank you! So it does seem like it should not be too hot for them right now especially doing the trip at night. I am going to the Thomaston area a bit south of Atlanta. It is barely over freezing here Right now. Can't wait to be down there!!

Unless the multiple mama hens and chicks have been mingling together, do NOT put them all in the same crate. Mama hens are likely to kill babies not their own.

If you can get wine boxes (for bottles, not the kind that actually contains wine), they are just about the right size for a silkie. Put a couple of inches of shavings in the bottom and top with a silkie. Tape several together is that makes it easier, and make a top with hardware cloth or cage wire or something similar. Put a mama with babies in a slightly larger box. I'd be really concerned about the eggs under a broody--way to likely to get bounced around.

I can't be much help on how to transport, but good luck on the move!! Where are you moving to? This sounds so last miinute!!! Probabaly because you have been so darn busy. Keep us informed and let us know how it went... Best wishes.

Thanks Pennie!!! We were to be moving two weeks from now but closing has been bumped up to now! LOL We have been looking for a place in Georgia for awhile and finally found a perfect place with a barn all ready for the chickeys except to put up some perches etc. An Acre is fenced, house in good shape, decent price and it is moving quickly. We already did several trips down to Georgia looking at places so when the closing bumped up for this one the DH said this has to be the last trip so we are moving Friday night!!! I have talked to him about transporting the chickeys and he insists they go in the van with him because if anything happens to any of them, it will be his fault! LOL Probably right! Just worried if the load would shift and fall on them
