My little Silkie chick is maybe 9 or 10 weeks old. Her name is Egberta, or should it be Egbert? I know it might be early but I'm so hoping for a she as I can't have roos in my town.
Would little boys do the chest-thumping thing with each other or is that a girl thing? (Keep in mind, I am VERY new to having chickens!) This silkie and an Ameraucana (that I feel pretty sure is a girl) were doing that when they first got in the run the other day but I haven't seen it since.

Me thinks that it's name is "Egbert", sorry. Cute little guy. Both sexes will do the chest bump thing, I even have a hen that will bump the younger cockerels and fight them! A strang bird in the group will call up that behavior too.

Well I knew that was a possibility but since he's my only Silkie it's disappointing. I kind of bought him on impulse when I got the other chicks (Ameraucanas and Marans) but he's so much fun! Oh, well, I do have a good home lined up for him.
I went out to put my chickens to bed last night and found my pair of partridges dead.
I think it was probably a cat neither of them were even remotely eaten but did have neck wounds. What an absolute disappointment... I was just getting excited about the possibility of baby silkies in the spring.
