Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

I figure this is a good place to ask if this little chick will be partridge?
The pics came out actually a little lighter than the chick is, but it wouldn't hold still for the camera, so these are the best so far.
This chick is 2 days old, and supposed to be 'show quality'

Did you buy her as a chick or hatch eggs? Whoever sold it to you should be ashamed, no egg or chick is Show Quality, you never know about a bird until they are mature or close to mature if they have Show Potential. The chick may have come from a Show line or SQ birds.

It looks like it may be partridge OR buff, I have seen buff chicks like this. Hard to say It is super cute though!

Thanks Jessy- I greatly appreciate the info, as I have only had chickens of my own for about 8 weeks, so I don't know stuff like that. I would have bought this chick either way. I was leaving and went back and bought it cause I just couldn't leave him/her. I did think to myself that it seemed kind of silly to label them as 'show quality', because they change sooooo much as they grow......i mean, how could one know a thing like that at that age? But there again, I don't know a whole lot , so I figured best to ask the people who do!!

lol HEY we have all been there at one time hun! But yes some breeders or what have you will claim hatching eggs or chicks are Show Quality, but in reality you should take that to mean "FROM Show Quality" or "From Show Lines" - even the best two birds can still throw out a bunch of 'less than great' offspring, and only a handful of birds that will be Show birds themselves. Thats a fact many of us have learned!

X2! Well put. Then there are those who claim their stock is "Top Show Quality", and when you ask them where they have shown, it most always turns out to be at a local fair or 4H show. Unless the parent stock is winning under APA/ABA judges, and is comparing to the Standard of Perfection, it really doesn't mean squat! Even then, if it's a very small APA/ABA show, and there aren't many birds in competition, some birds win by, more or less, default. So those are some questions to ask the breeders when you go looking for some more Silkies...and you will!

in America yes silkies are considered bantams. However they are not as small in size as other bantams are...You see more and more silkies are being bred larger, (intentionally and not) and they can typically be larger than your other bantam breeds (games, d'uccles, dutch, etc) I have had silkies who top 4-5 lbs boys and girls... (most other bantam breeds don't exceed 2lbs)


In Europe there are two size classes bantam and standard/large fowl of silkies.

ok, Thanks! I thought I had seen something that said they have standard size and bantams, but I have read so much chicken info, that I am starting to have a hard time remembering stuff

Chicks are never show quality. They can come from show quality parents, but until htey mature, you cannot tell what their quality will be. Yes, very cute chick, and yes, partridge.

I need to get new photos of my current birds, but these are some pics of some of the Partridges I had before I had to cut my flock way back, and then lost a few. I am rebuilding my flock now so I am looking for birds like these.

Mama Moonlite (still have her), she was BOV when I showed her. She has the proper bay colored breast that so many Partridge hens are lacking, and she is as typey as the day is long. I really need to get a good current pic of her. My avatar pic is her youngest daughter, which I also still have. She is almost the spitting image of her mama.
