I could write a book on my theories on the subject, however I will not... IMO the advice of caution when dealing with things in the mind is wise regardless of your Religion, faith, or non faith...
( I will contend that not all things unexplainable are inherently "bad" though.. at least not in my experiences.)

IHWIMY, I feel Noodleroo makes a good point on science and faith,
If you think about it this is the way it has always been, we tend to use words like "faith" for things we can not fully wrap our understanding/scientific knowledge around or repeat at will. To me it makes sense that on the frontier of our knowledge and science we look faith in the eyes.
I have known several mathematicians and physicists, who had very peculiar beliefs/faiths. I feel their faiths were forged at the horizon of their scientific knowledge.
