Well, you guys made me look. Mine is "the original Atlas, made in Italy by OMC Marcato." It's a good machine in every way except, as you say, the clamp is just wrong. They do need to be anchored well! I guess the counters in Italy are the thickness of a breadboard....
As for an electric one... I had no idea you could pay that much for one. You gotta be kidding. I would definitely buy a closet rod, cut off a long piece for a rolling pin, get a huge bread board, and do it the old fashioned way first. Even if I won the lottery, I can think of better uses for money. I wouldn't even pay that much for a refrigerator, not even if I won the lottery, and I have a big refrigerator. And you will never convince me that the average Italian household has a $2200 pasta machine. I suspect they usually go the closet rod route, or the local equivalent.
