Pasta/potato water as a treat?

Any reason I shouldn't give my chickens some of the leftover water strained from my boiled pasta or potatoes as an occasional treat? After cooled down, of course. Either for them to drink or used to mix up a mash. I figure it's just starch, some extra calories for the winter. I can't think of a reason why not but figured I'd ask.

If you salt the water, I wouldn’t give it to them.

I think it should be fine then, I’d use it to make a wet mash instead of giving it to drink.
