Hello, I have a laying hen that has lost most of her feathers in her vent and belly area , I believe it may be pastey butt , could someone please tell me what it looks like and how to treat her ??? I have seperated her from the rest of my flock even though she seems very healthy but I have noticed that a couple of my other girls have been chasing her around the run and trying to peck at the bald area on her , hence this is why I have separated her from the flock . She is still laying though this morning had a paper thin soft shell egg in the temp coop. If anybody could give me a idea of what it is or how to treat it I would be very grateful to get her better and return her to the rest of the flock asap. Thank you advance and have a great day !!!!

If it was pasty butt she would have poop all around her vent clogging her.Hens don't get pasty butt, only chicks do.I'd check for mites,or she just may have a clogging.Just wash her but,or clip her butt clean. She could aslo be molting.

Thank you very much I am a very new first time chicken owner and trying to learn as quick as possible . I don't think it's mites as I live in Michigan and has been very cold here , talked to another chicken farmer and he said it would be way to early in season for mites . We did clean her butt very well and put desitin on her bottom and stomach area , she looks like she has healed very well and is very healthy and happy looking and acting except for the feathers missing around her vent and stomach area. Thank you again for all your help.
