I am brand new here and get my chicks tomorrow or Sun. so I am far from expert,LOL. But wanted to mention that I read somewhere to get Parakeet Grit at the pet store to sprinkle on chick starter. It comes in a small box and is inexpensive.

I also think that pasty butt can be caused by many different factors and treated several different ways. I've begun to think that other than cleaning them up so that they don't develop a complete blockage, most will just get over it on their own.
Sometimes I think it's a little like those jokes where people recommend some bogus cold remedy and end the instructions with, "and your cold will be gone in 7-10 days."
