Do you have chick grit in there with them? It looks like the two nearest the camera may be trying to eat the bedding.

Let's see.. 17C is about 63F
and 10C is 50F. And the chicks are about a week old. But those are outside temps. What will the temp be in your house overnight? Do they all fit under the brooder plate? Can you put your hand on the brooder plate without burning your hand? The way the brooder plate is supposed to work is, the chicks warm themselves by contacting it, just like they would stay warm by snuggling up to their mother. It doesn't really warm the air under it. So if they can all touch their backs to it, it's fine, that's all the heat they need.
They are eating the spilt crumble/chick starter. I do have grit - should I add it to their bedding? I have feeder arriving tomo too. Similar style to the water feeder.Do you have chick grit in there with them? It looks like the two nearest the camera may be trying to eat the bedding.
Yep, lol! A rock, It was so I could lower a cardboard roofing if it was cold - They could still come out from it into open space, but rock was to lower & insulate roof if needed overnight. I will raise the heat light for now & remove once 2nd brooder arrives tomo too.Vtelfer, for a minute I thought you had a rabbit in there with them but it's just some rocks!![]()
Sounds good. This has been fun. I think you'll be fine now. Stay in touch! It's bedtime for me now over here in the US. You must be somewhere in the UK?Yep, lol! The black wire hanging down is temp probe. It is at chick head height....They mostly hanging out under heat light rather than brooder....Anyway, two heat plates too, hopefully the answer. Really am soo grateful for your help!I think the two brooder plates are all you need. The chicks can also huddle together to keep warm. Let me see if @Debbie292d agrees. Debbie? The house ambient temp is about 55F.
