Pasty butt flare up

Is pasty butt more prevelent during the Summer months? We ran several batches of chicks through during the Spring and didn't have any cases of it but the batch we received on Monday has 7 out of 29 with it.

The only difference I can see is that it is more humid now.

I always thought it had more to do with the chicks diet than anything else but I could be wrong.

Got it here too but we noticed that it is our smaller breed chicks. None of the Crested Polish have it but almost all of my Crele OEGB's do. Coincidence?

All came from same hatchery, packed in same box, living in same brooder, eating same food...weird huh?

If anyone ever saw me in the barn washing chicken butts they would die laughing....

If it's more humid or they got overheated during shipping, any type of stress can cause a surge of pasty butt. Clean em up and they should be just fine.

I noticed the weaker chicks seemed to get it more often with my bunch. I think that they got a little too hot. When I first decided to get chickens I though I would need a coop, fence, feeders, etc. Now I know I need olive oil, acv, baby oatmeal, tiny scissors, soft clean washrags, boiled egg yolks, yogurt lol. My son's bathroom has been taken over by the chicken spa. I decided that after the first night of washing chicken butts that I was going to give them a brazillian trim. Made life a whole lot easier.

Only one of 7 of my 3 week old chicks has had it a couple times. It happens to be the runt of the group.

i read that its because they get chilled.

I had my one rhode island rd chick consistantly have pasty butt for the first 2 weeks back in April. So i don't know if weather has anything to do with it or not. I washed and lubed her with veggie oil every day.
