In the Brooder
Sorry, I know this topic comes up a fair bit, and I tried to look at previous posts, but I'm still not too sure, so I figured I'd post up my case. We received 4 day old chicks yesterday, all seemed clean. This morning I noticed what looks to be a dark hard poop on a couple of our girls. I didn't notice this yesterday, but I'm not sure if that was because it's a cord that hadn't yet dried (if that's a thing and if they get darker as they dry).
It seems larger on our golden buff:
I also noticed similar on our Rhode Island Red:
I tried dabbing at the Buff for a bit with a paper towel soaked in warm water, but it didn't seem to even start to break it down. After a bit I decided to pause (reallllly paranoid about hurting the girls) and look and see if there were better options when I came across warnings that it may be a cord. Figured I'd reach out and see if anyone knows for sure. Thanks!
