So, I went home at lunch and noticed this little guy/gal in the corner of the brooder. I picked him/her up and noticed a white paste on the butt.

I got a warm cloth and moisten the area and cleaned it up the best I could. I was looking at it and noticed it was kinda swollen around the vent. Right then it pooed again (which you can see in the pics and it was white and pasty and just stuck there, did not plop to the ground.

So, I cleaned it off again and made up a little brooding spot just for it, tried to feed it a little yogurt and water and put it under a light in the house til I can go back home. I could stand/churp but it looked pretty sad/lathargic...

What else should I do?? What is this??

And the chicken has white fuzz on its underside which is some of what you are looking at.

UMMM, not sure but it doesn't look like pastey butt to me, maybe coccidiosis. Was it dried to the butt area or runny? Do you see any bood? Try Apple cider vinegar in the water and ground up oatmeal in the feed has always helped mine. Of course everyone has their own treatments, but that has worked for me. Also are you feeding medicated feed or regular? At any rate keep it cleaned off and dap a bit of olive oil to the butt area. See if this helps, if not you may have to give some corid/amprol for cocci.

What I do with mine when they have this is first of all, I wash their bumm off and dry it with the blow dryer. That allows them to stay warm. Then I put them in the incubator/brooder and give them some antibiotic in their water, yogurt and a scrambled egg for protein and watch them. Hope this helps and

for your cruddy lunch hour. Funny how God makes things happen for a reason....wonder why you forgot your sandwich???

I have a baby turkey like this. How is your chick doing? I am giving mine antibiotics to see if it will help. His wings are drooping is yours?

I'm not sure it's pasty butt- it is usually hard poop and it does not seem to bother them right away-
possible cocci

corcid is what I have read helps it
I would not give him antibiotics unless you know its bacterial
good luck with him
do a search for cocci and see what you can find

i had a chick that did this, they were on med chick starter, so i know that part was taken care of,
I mix equal parts finely ground old fashion oat meal, corn meal, and 1/2 the amount of chick grit, and with a couple days it was cleared up, i kept the chick on for about a week with feed. I also put 1 tablespoon of Apple Cedar vinegar w/ mother in a mason jar

Oh My Gosh!!!! I have 2 that have this same problem!! I just posted my problem on the question board. What does the Apple Cider Vinegar due? Won't that make the water taste bad?? Did this work for the chick? Is he any better?

the ACV with mother, is very good for them, it helps with their digestive and it full of Vit's and minerals, plus i was told it helps keep intestinal worms away,
actually they like the taste as long as you dont put to much in.

Thank you for getting back to me!! I am on day 3 or 4 of this. They seem better (maybe) today... used the yogurt and the feed. Adding ACV tomorrow.
