Pasty butt, what to do?

One of our girls was pasty the first days we had her. Thanks to info on this site I decided to try a paper towel soaked with warm water. I was able to soften the stuck poo and pick it off with my fingers. I cleaned up her vent and feathers and started all the chicks on a greek yogurt and crumble mash. After 2 days of that, no more pasty butt! Now they love yogurt (with or without crumbles mixed in) and have messy faces instead

I didn't pull it off after pulling brought some fluff with it. Paper towels are good to soak it soft. Just holding their butt under running warm water works, too, with patience; it only needs to be a small gentle stream. The grease is to keep the next round from sticking so badly. Hopefully if you get a little molasses in them, there won't be a next round.

With Mine I dont think it was really "clogging it up" she was pooing fine but one day all she would do wad peck at it. I tried to pull it off with my fingers and after a long 20 minutes it came off.... WITH SOME DOWN AND BLOOD!!!!

I felt so bad. It wasnt that horrible though. I think she was happier then. I didnt know it was a common chicky killer at the time so it as there for a long time without harming her noticably.....

ACT FAST! Don't delay! I take a paper towel, wet with warm water, and I hold it on the dried poo, then after a while, it will soften, and you can crush it, and wipe it off. Then, I take a Q-tip, and dab on a tad of Olive Oil, so the poop won't stick. Then put the chickie back in the brooder, and make sure it gets plenty of water, and maybe give it a little bit of yogurt.

Wow. I didn't know anyone else had this problem. None of my chicks had this, but 1 of my 3 guinea keets did. I soaked their bottom in a little warm water for a minute or two, then wiped the area clean. I did this at least once a day for about 3 days, and they haven't had it again.
