pasty butt

hi, i have 7 chicks that hatched out about 6 days ago

6 of them are doing great, but 1 has constantly got poop stuck to it's bum

i've read on here to gently wash it off with warm water, and to rub a little olive oil on it to try and stop it sticking again...but a couple of hours later, he/she's all gunked up again

i hate having to distress him/her by doing this every couple of hours......is there anything else i could be doing to stop it happening?

Give a drop or two of castor oil or mineral oil. Some people do this routinely to prevent pasty butt. It's a constipation problem. Be sure the water never runs out or gets too clogged with litter. Try a small amount of yogurt each day; simplest to just moisten a bitl of feed with a bit of yogurt. Discard what isn't eaten in a few minutes. You can give this to all of them; won't hurt, might help, by adding probiotic.

Try putting a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar with "mother" in the drinking water. It's one tablespoon per gallon, I believe.

i already give the rest of the flock it in their water...i hadn't realised chicks could have it, so i hope it works

I have one that's struggling super small compared to the siblings and has a big red protrusion and I don't know what to do other than giving him warm baths and clean him up and putting Vaseline. Is that the right thing to do? Should I give him castor oil? Seems kind of lethargic so I'm making sure he drinks water I'm not sure how much food he is actually eating. I was going to keep him inside in a box to let him rest but he seems to want to go back in the coop with his mom
