I've been cleaning my chicks since they got here (April 9) and the next day they get pasty butt again! This wasn't a problem with the other batches of chicks (well I did have pasty butts, but once I cleaned them they wouldn't never get pasty butts again) What should I do? I've been cleaning them so much that I've noticed one of my chicks got really stressed

I don't know the answer to your question b/c I've never dealt w/ pasty butts, however, I do know that it has been addressed many time on this forum, so perhaps a search of "pasty butt" would be helpful to you. Good luck!

I personally feed my chicks GRIT (or sand) and rarely ever get a pasty butt.

Some people swear by mixing some cornmeal into their starter feed, not sure how it helps but you might try and see

The problem is not how to clean them, the problem is why do they always get pasty butts

get a q-tip and rub alittle olive oil on their vent and the surrounding feathers. it will help with the sticking. worked great with my rir chick.

I actually heard that too-high temps can cause this. Although mine was spot on, and I had a few that had a devil of a time with it this time around.

I put a little chick grit in for free choice picking, and I put Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in their water (1 T/gal). I also used a little olive oil after their cleaning.

It did end up working. Or they outgrew it.

I cleaned their butts again (about 5-7 chicks had pasty butts out of 19 chicks) and I applied vasseline around the vent area like Miss Prissy said

Lets see if that works

if not I'll try the olive oil
