Hi Everyone, I received my Chickens on Wednesday and today I noticed one had a pasty butt, I checked and 3 our of 12 had pasty butts. They are under a red heat lamp temp is 95 and the coolest part of the run is 70. I have probiotics ( saveachick) in their water. They all seem to be eating and are lively. I took the three pasty butt chicks and with warm water, got rid of the poo and dried them off. I think they have it because they are stressed from the trip. I check on them about every 6 hours during the day and have replaced their paper towel 4 times. I don't think I discovered the problem too late as they all seem to be active. Is their anything I am doing wrong or anything I should be doing. I did not put oil on their vents. I will do it tonight if any have pasty butts. Thanks

Your chickens should be fine and grow out of it. You can give them some medicine, but it is only because it’s stuck to the fluff. It should not hurt them. I have a 1 1/2 year old that never grew out of it, and is doing fine, my other one did!!!:celebrate

I still have a chick with pasty butt, it’s 2 months.

Other than adding a bit of mineral oil to the vent to keep more poo from getting stuck, I wouldn't do anything different. All my shipped hatchery chicks who had this grew out of it in like two days, as soon as they settled in. It is important to check the chicks for it a few times a day in the first week though. They are processing lots of waste as they grow and they have to be able to get rid of it.
