Paternal instinct from a Serama Roo?

My grandma used to say that an excellent roo will show a new pullet where to lay an egg and will guard or stay with her in the nest box. I have seen this very good behavior in roos I had in the past. This type of roo will make an extraordinary father, even calling the chicks when he finds treats and protecting them.

Well so far he seems to be a wonderful bird. I don't know how much of that is the breed, and how much is individual but we really like him. He's super friednly with the kids and he's even nice to the other 4 serama chicks in the pen with them. Now the other roo is feelin' his oats and trying to "mate" the hen chicks...I've seen this roo come to their aid and keep him away...good boy!
