It's a Hatchday Celebration!

Aurora is 7 today!

Not even the cold could stop her Celebration!

Here are some photos from when she came to live with us.

I was torn between a laugh or a heart icon for the 'then we get to just cold' comment hahahaha - good one!

Hi Lady F I bet you're doing ok with the extreme cold with your lovely fluffies :)
She seems to be doing pretty well.

Hello. Some of you know that it used to be a very active member on this thread. I just can’t keep up these days and I’m not on BYC as much as I used to be. Those of you who know me might remember that my dear Barred Rock, Bridge, was my oldest and dearest hen. She died at 12:35 AM today. May she rest in peace.

Here she is in all her glory. I’ll add a photo of her little grave at the end.

I am so sorry she has passed, RIP dear Bridge! This must be extra-difficult for you, an OG. What a hardy girl she was. These pictures are sooooo nice, she had such a sweet face and disposition! The song you made for her, that was great! I loved your videos of her. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs
Rest in the arms of angels little lady.
She certainly will
❤️
I remember that song too.
❤️
Yes, me three! And watching Bridge enjoy being sung to.

This! My Abigail does this. I don't even try to hand feed her anymore, sadly - just throw her treats to the ground in front of her. Did you ever solve this problem? Other than tucking one small treat at a time between my thumb and first finger, as Shad suggested and which also takes forever, it's hard to know what to do.
No, I did not.

Your help needed with Piglet.
Ever since the fox attack that took Mr. Chips there has been something off about Piglet.
Remember I found some of her feathers at the crime scene so I think she was maybe attacked but got away.
I examined her for wounds and found none. I figured it was stress from the attack and from seeing Mr. Chips taken.
Then it got very, very cold and she seemed more bothered by the cold than anyone else.
She would spend most of the day all fluffed up and sitting in a hollow in the straw doing nothing.
She always roosts, always eats breakfast, and then just sits and watches while everyone else is busy exploring the straw.
She had lost 9% of her body weight from October 10 to now. But she has food in her crop at night (maybe not enough but not empty), and not in the morning.
I thought she was shaking her head a lot and examined her face, throat, and nares but didn’t see anything odd. I failed to get a good look at her ears.
I am away at the moment but got this close up video of her this afternoon on one of the cameras.
Sorry for the length but I would appreciate if anyone spots something I am missing.
I think she's not comfortable around the neck, as she's flaring a little with each head shake, at least a few of the shakes. I wonder if she's trying to make it feel like it's all "in place". Then right after the peck (lol) around 1:10 and later, you can see she's definitely missing back neck feathers.

When Butters escaped the hawk attack in May 2021 she was stiff for days. Upon examination she had just one small cut, and a couple of under-skin bleeds between the feather shafts visible to the naked eye. The majority of her injuries were mostly invisible - the internal bruising and crush of the talons. She didn't visibly have a whole patch of feathers ripped off anywhere. But it must have caused a molt where her biggest injury was as the area behind her shoulder changed into a little golden cape of new feathers.

August 2021, three months later, you can just make out a bit of it on her left side here just next to the grass on the "horizon" of her back. She's in sunlight and it really glowed.

3 Pomegranates pruned. W/ a broken arm plus surgery I neglected pruning for 2 seasons so it was a big job taking it slow & careful.
