Paternal Instincts in Roos?

I actually exclaimed out loud, "is that not adorable!" What sweetness and thanks so much for posting that pic! Definite mood lifter to see something so precious first thing in the morning!

My nutty roo, who is only 6 mos old decided to flog my 3 year old nephew the other day! He has no spurs to speak of, but he definitely tried to use his nubs and I'm sorry, it was the funniest thing ever. My sister and I about died from laughing once we got over the shock of what had just happened. We're new to chickens and it was a novelty to see that! I went over and kicked his butt across the yard and I think he got the message, he just kept a wary eye on the "little intruder" from then on, and crowed loud and long to let us know he was there protecting his girls!

Bonnylass79, I was wondering what breed your paternal roo is. I'm expecting to start a flock in the spring and am considering what to raise. Thanks!

Be careful. This behavior may escalate and not be funny next time.

I do realize that, he ever does it again-he's a goner for sure; just debating whether to sell him or eat him!

Thanks for your concern.

That is just the sweetest picture of the roo and baby I have ever seen. I have a Bantam roo that has had a chick hatch and he seems to know that it is his. He is very sweet and caring for it like he does his hens.
