Thanks for the advice on the meds. Will go to the feed store tomorrow to get it. I don'[t know any vet around here that will supply the baytril. I live in a city and no one does chickens

.

The only other thing I had on hand was sulmet and my friend who has hundreds of chickens told me to use the terramycin.

It's the first time in over three years I have had truely ill birds and so far it is only the two. I am closely monitoring the rest of the flock for symptoms but so far they seem well. I don't want to have to drug my laying hens if I don't have to. Especially right before baking season when I need all the eggs I can get...

p.s. I trust your judgement - do you have a gender guess?

Denagard you would have to order (QC Supply has the best price); no withdrawal time for eggs. All the other meds are usually 2 weeks withdrawal.

The bird looks too young to say for certain, but the hackle area does not have any streamers. Of course, could simply be too young for them.

I'm going to say pullet. I see no hackle feathers and the tail does not look rooish. I see very little wattle also. Sonaran has given you some excellent advice for the Respiratory Condition.

Is the basement moist by chance? That would be a problem. Does she get Sunlight on a daily basis?

The basement is very dry where she is. I brought her in from the outside because she started exhibiting signs of being sick. So until yesterday she was outside. My basement has "natural" lights too (I put some plants down there in the winter) She is also near a window. The basement is unfinished but not a dungeon

I will have to treat the whole flock it looks like - when I was closing up the coop tonight, I heard more sneezing.

I think I will still keep her completely seperate for now, she is worse than the rest.

Thanks for all the great illness advice even though this is the breed/gender section!

It is the first time in 3 1/2 years of owning chickens I have ever had an illness of any kind
