Here is the added extension to the coop with additional panel. I added a solid piece of this panel board to a few sections for shade and wind block. They were screwed in at four corners and can be removed. Added hinge for ramp with better screws. Replaced the 1 inch perch with a 1 3/4 inch perched and raised it up where they like it better. Added a latch to the door without having to line the door up to make it work like the other slide latch.

I’m thinking I’ll want to add an extra panel to the run. How did you frame it out? Meaning did you model it after the current sections of the run? I am headed to the home improvement store this weekend for supplied to modify my coop too (painting, hardware, sealing and the added run section) and I am curious what supplies you think we'd need to do an extension like yours. Can you tell I am a fan of your coop hacks?! TIA

If you don't already have an electric staple gun, you should get one and will make stapling the 1/2 square hardware cloth much easier. Make sure you get the 1/4" or 5/16" size staples. You will have to tap them in the rest of the way with a hammer in harder wood. The wood frames for the run are 1 x 1 1/4 inch. I was only able to find 3/4 x 1 1/2 framing. Just lay them out next to your original run frame for size and make the cuts. It will help if you put a frame together from the kit first and then size it or it will be a bit off due to the wood size differences from the store. You will need a roll of hardware cloth with 1/2" squares. You save more money buying a longer roll. Make sure it's at least 4 feet tall of a roll.
You will also need wood screws to attach the sections together. I used 2" screws and sank the screw head into the wood about an 1/8 in into the wood. Pre-drill the wood with a small drill bit to prevent splitting the wood. Take another drill bit the size of the screw head and just lightly go in to sink the screw head.

Thanks a lot @JerryR708! You did an awesome job with all your mods. Though I know I’ll likely have to build a better coop from the ground up next year (or the year after), it’s good to see that this coop is serviceable with the right changes! Have a great long weekend.

Hi Jerry! One more quick question. I just got my coop delivered yesterday and the size of the boxes is daunting. I’ll have to open/assemble near where I’ll be placing my coop. BUT I wanted to order a door (or build one) and wanted to know the dimensions of the preexistibg cut out entrance for the chooks. Would you happen to know? Thanks!

The coop run comes with a door, hinges and latch.
