Cody drew himself to his feet then fell down again. "Adolpha?" he asked. He looked around. "Wait, where am I? Where's Amerock?" He looked at Vortex. "Who's this?" His hackles started raising a little due to fear.

"Shh, it's okay. We're the Alphas of the Dune pack. Amerock has been dead for a long time." She swayed with the truck as it rumbled along.

"Dead!" Cody yelled. He suddenly scampered to his feet and accidentally hit his head on the top of the box. "Ow!" he fell back to the floor.

Adolpha looked at Cody with confusion. "You mean you've seen him? He was banished from the pack because of his leg, one day we were playing and... and..." She brushed a tear away.

Cody rubbed his head with his paw. "Yeah," he muttered, "he was with me when I got shot and I told him to run." He looked at his paw to see if his head was bleeding. It wasn't. "Banished from a pack because of his leg? Boy, that's a sorry excuse to do such a thing." He looked at Adolpha, then at Vortex. "You said you two were Alphas, didn't you?"

Adolpha looked at him with excitement. He's not dead! She responded to Cody's question. "Yes we are Alphas."

"And you have him banished?" he asked. He slowly rose to his feet. "Not very nice if you ask me. He could have easily starved with his limp if he wasn't such a good hunter."
