Thanks guys I have spoken to a few vets and the general feeling is that it would be hard for chickens to get it but but not impossible. Also a guy in the USA said that they have a different strain of it then hook bill parrots so he did not believe that it could be tranmissed from a hook bill to a soft bill only from a soft bill to a soft bill. However I would still make sure to try and not tranfer anything across to them.
Also if they do get it then they would feel unwell and stop laying according to every vet I spoke to to eating their eggs would not be an issue as there are none to eat. The did recommend that we do not eat the birds but was not planning on that anyway
as they will be pets.
