I had 2 pea chicks hatch yesterday. One has curled toes. I made snow shoes for that one.
The other looked like it was twisted with the wing getting caught in one leg. When I took that one out of the incubator,
I noticed that it had a hard time straightening the leg. I taped the legs as if it was spraddle leg. I also massaged the joint.
It seems better, but I am not sure how well the chick is trying to walk. I noticed on here that if it is a slipped tendon, that I should put pressure on either side of the joint to get it back in place. Does this sound like the case here?

thanks

Hi,

I can't answer what the problem is, but I wanted to let you know that when I have pea chick leg problems, I use a thin strip of band-aids to hold the legs at the 'normal' place. I also discovered that using something like a measuring cup or something similar, you can place a folded up paper towel in the bottom and place the chick inside. He can only stand and sit, which increases muscle strength. Make sure he's warm enough, and getting plenty of water w/vitamins and medicated chick feed as well. I have had really good results/luck with this method.

How are your chicks doing today?

One chick looks good. I am pretty sure from reading old post on here that the other chick was hatched with a slipped tendon. If anyone was the cure, let me know. thanks
