My peachick that's about 3 weeks old is acting very strange tonight - it was fine this morning, but this evening it walks around "fine" for a bit, then lays it's head/neck straight out in front of it as it "lays" down. It is shaking its head and tipping forward from time to time also. It's been hot here the last 2 days. I put electrolytes in the waterer this evening & tried to get some fluids in the chick with an eye dropper, but not really successful. Wondering if maybe it got it's head stuck somewhere for awhile today and is a little messed up from that?? I took a video of it - but I don't think I can upload that on this thread?? Ideas?? West Nile?? Momma pea hen is walking around with it yet & it follows her for a while until it tips forward and looks pathetic.

The little guy seems better this morning although it didn't fly up to the roost overnight. Momma peahen sat with him on the floor though. I have a friend of a friend who is a vet who believes after seeing the video clip that he got his head stuck somewhere. I tend to believe that theory too because his eyes seemed bright yet...not droopy or hazy. They are actually going to stop out to take a look at the little guy today (free of charge - can't beat that!).

Seems as though he found a little "hole" in some fencing that I had on the backside of the pen (that I didn't know was even there!) & likely got stuck for a bit. Vet thought he may have hyperextended his neck. When I tend the birds, they are relatively calm, but when strangers come by they are more skittish. When the vet showed up ("stranger danger!" :), the little stinker tried squeezing through that opening - mystery solved.
