I just got this peachick from a friend who had given up on it. I am not sure whats wrong with its foot or how to fix it, so please any suggestions would be very helpful!! I don't know if it will live or not, but I am willing to give it a shot. This is the only peachick we have had (have 25 chickens, 4 turkeys, a calf, dogs) but would like to see if we can help it. I think its about 2-3 weeks old now

If you do a search here, you'll find a lot of information about dealing with peachick foot problems such as the one your guy has.

Although I have not dealt with these problems myself, I think these things are usually addressed pretty early.
(This is definitely not a suggestion that you give up on the cutie!)

Hopefully someone with more experience can give you some educated advice.

It seems I'm wrong about it being a bit late to help your guy (experts???).

The foot itself needs to be taped outstretched as if in the normal position,,then you may need to make a wire brace from the backside of the leg, coming down so it's flat on the floor,,much like in the shape of a letter "L". I use shipping tape,,clear and about 2" wide, lay a cut piece about 5" long so it's sticky side up,,then take the peachick and outstretch it's toes in their normal position and push them down on the tape,,do this to one side of the tape so you can then take the other 1/2 of the tape and bring over the top of the toes,,be sure to press the tape together between each toe so it's tape sticking to tape. You can then trim off the excess tape, then make your "L" brace and use surgical tape around the bottom of the leg,and more shipping tape on the bottom of the foot to secure. This chick,, as severe as it's toes looks may need them taped for 3 days at least. Trick is to get each toe outstretched and flat on the tape so each toe is spread apart,as if naturally walking. This peachick already looks several weeks old and this should have been done right after it hatched, waiting for the toes to "set" wrong takes longer to straighten and in some cases they will not get straight after too long of time has elapsed.

its hard to get his foot open all the way, but we will try to make a brace for it. I had to tape his legs together (about 1 1/2 apart) to keep his leg from pushing outward. he doesn't seem to be in any pain but just flops around. will take pictures of the brace as soon as we can get it done. you guys will have to let me know if it looks right LOL

we were not able to straighten his foot out all at. also at the "knee" it tends to point outward too much. leg and foot are cold so I am guessing he has no circulation to them now.

we are going to try to amputate at the knee this weekend. he seems to stand on the knee a lot and hobbles around so we think this would be a good solution.

he is up and eating/drinking and is growing quite well.

We have a few peapeople here who have peas primarily functioning on only one leg, and they seem to have adjusted well.
However, I don't believe that either of them did anything drastic like amputation.
It seems that perhaps you shouldn't rush into anything, why not wait wait for some more advice here?

In the meantime, you might take a look at this thread:
