one of our peahens had her 1 week old peachick with her on the 8 foot high rafters last night. any idea how she would have gotten it there?
also, a couple years ago we had some peachicks crash and burn coming down from these rafters.
should i block them off so that the mother peahen doesn't take her baby up there?
thanks

My assumption would be that the baby climbed onto Mom's back and she flew up there.
That didn't happen. The mother hen will set up on the roost calling for the chick to come to her. The chick will find small landing pads and stairstep its way up to mom or will climb up the wall. There is no danger of the chick hurting itself from falling off the roost. It is this exercise that builds up the flight worthiness for the chick and in a few days will be flying all the way up to the roost.
