One of my younger BSSP girls I found this morning in the corner of the coop with almost all her crest feathers picked out and her eye completely full of dried sand. I took her inside and held a warm wet paper towel on her eye for a few minutes and was able to rinse most of the sand out (there's still just a little bit still stuck to her lower eyelid now). I had to put her back in with the others because the farrier (person who trims horses' feet) was here and I had to get the horses. After the farrier left I went straight to the pea house to check on her, she was back in the same corner, sitting very still, with no more crest feathers on her head. I have her inside with me now, and I plan on giving her her own space in the brooder box in my living room. I have her with me while the heat lamp warms up. I have vitamin and electrolyte stuff that I can put in her water, I also have Corid, but don't know if this is the right circumstance to use it. What should I do? She's very lethargic... Thanks everyone.

I got the last (I think) of the sand out of her eye, but her eye's still super goopy. I mixed up some vitamin/electolyte water and am cleaning the small waterer for her. She's still laying pretty still. I have her directly under the heat lamp so she can warm up, the heat lamp is a little high up from the ground so it is probably just warm enough right under it, she can walk around though if she gets too hot.

It's evident if her crest is gone someone else is picking on her, probably 1 of the bigger Opals. You might want to bring in the other 2 BSSP chicks since she was kept with them since hatchtime for companionship,,keep her warm and dry.Chances are she's been chased and bullied by one of the bigger ones and she's tired-worn out now.It may be time to permanently seperate the Opals away from everyone else because of their size diffrence at least until the smaller chicks gain more size.
Maybe you should group the 6 smaller one you just got, with the 4 in the group you had already_Muppetts group? Are those 4 peachicks similar in size to the 6 new ones?

I could put the Opals in the middle section, but there's extension cords and pretty much everything in the way in that smaller section.. But I can do it. I worry about bringing the other two BSSP in because I don't want them to walk all over her while she's resting. Maybe in an hour or so, after she's caught up on some rest. Muppet's group are just a little bigger than the "purple" pied one, but I think my best bet is to just get those big Opals out of the way. I'll have to set up another heat lamp for them, they still seem to like to be under it.

I just brought the other two BSSP inside to be with her, they're not sure what's going on so they're pretty quiet too. Little sick one is still right under the heat lamp, sleeping. :/ Poor thing. I just hope she gets some water. I will move the Opals to the middle section very soon, just have to clear it out and bring another heat lamp out there.

The "Thangs" are now moved in with the four original babies, the Opals are by themselves, and the BSSP are in the living room brooder box. I've been checking on them pretty much every half hour, and they seem to be okay. Is there any eye rinse or ointment or anything like that that I should give to the little girl? Her eye is stuck shut from the eye boogers that dried while she was sleeping.

Hope your baby is doing better, it sounds like it was being bullied and was not able to eat and got down because it just ran out of energy, i use sugar water and poly-visol (no iron) every 30 minutes till they perk up, took 6 hourd last time but she is perfectly healthy 1 year old

She's doing a little better, still sleepy. She looks up at me with the one eye that's still open whenever I peek in on them. I'll have to put a warm wet paper towel to that shut eye so the goopies soften up and she can open it. Poor thing. I'm doing my best to take good care of her. I can try the sugar water as well, but I don't know if she'll drink it. Maybe since it's sweet? What's the recipe?

Some mix Karo corn syrup 1/2 and 1/2With water,,she probably won't drink on her own,,you will need a small syringe with a very small hose on the end to get the liguid to the very back of her mouth and down her throat. Her airway passage opening is under her tongue, and if she gets drenched with water there, she will get the fluid in her lungs.I have several plastic 1 piece syringes with a very long narrow end which is perfect for dispensing fluids past the windpipe,,it is used for applying glue to model airplanes in very tight spots on balsa.I know it doesn't help but a small diameter hose like what Brinsea uses on their humiditity pumps will slide over a 10cc syringe end.Be careful and only give her maybe 1-2 cc's at once,,then wait an hour.

Here is the type of syringe I use,,it's clear and all 1 piece,,notice how long and narrow the end is? It's best if 2 people can do this, one to hold the peachick and keep it's mouth open, and the other can concentrate on dispensing the liquid. If you can hold the neck and head-mouth up and open,so the mouth-throat are vertical,,it's very quick and right down the old gullet.Normally if the tube is full up to the bulb,,thats about 2ml,,,if you get the bulb full,,about 10 if I remember correctly,,if you get the tube 3/4 full that would be enough for an hour or so.But you probably don't have anything like this,,??
