Peachick prices

Hey there,

I got 2 peafowl eggs pretty cheap and decided to give it a try. Here's to hoping they hatch! anyways, I am not planning on keeping them, at least right now . Just wondering what I peachick might sell for? Are would I make more of a profit if I waited and sold them when they were older? What is the most desirable age to buy a peachick? Both eggs are from a mixed flock.

Welcome to BYC! It depends on where you live mainly. Such as where I live in Idaho the Indian Blue (the common peafowl) may only go for $25-$30 for an adult while peachick is $10-$15. Now if you live in areas where there are other people who are interested in peafowl they can get to $100 for adult Indian Blues from what I've heard.

Nothing like counting your money before the chicks hatch. It is a rare individual who makes a profit raising peafowl, we usually shoot for breaking even at best and profit from the joy of having them roaming about our property. I have seen chicks sell for more than yearlings so if you are wanting to make money sell them quick. Not to be too pessimistic, but I will venture to guess that neither of your eggs will develop, I hope I am wrong but keep us posted.

Incubating pea eggs is much more difficult than chickens even under the best of conditions. The age of the egg, how it was collected, stored, temperature, transported, then you have the incubator settings for heat and humidity, if it was cleaned or sanitized, and turning rate. It is enough to drive you crazy.

There is just so much related to eggs and fertility and collection, storage ect..... and I think its ripping people off to sell them eggs for the most part. We dont sell any eggs, just incubate and sell chicks to make sure peopel are getting what they paid for.

I sell Peacock Hatching eggs every year, $10-$15 each for the common varieties. Almost everyone who actually knows how to operate an incubator gets some to hatch. In many cases it is a much more affordable option for people. I myself have purple, opal, and bronze peafowl from purchased/traded eggs that had to be shipped. Don't down hatching eggs just because you don't choose to sell them. I for one am not trying to rip anyone off, but if a package is gonna get smashed by the USPS I'd rather it be a package of eggs and not a package of chicks. We each have our own personal preferences, and we respect those here in the Peafowl section. As KKB said nobody gets rich selling Peas, we do it because we love the birds and we want to share that experience with others, ripping people off isn't even in the equation.

Some people like buying hatching eggs because you get the joy of watching and waiting that when they hatch you get excited about it.I sell eggs at $2.50 though.

I sell my pea chicks for 25 each no matter what color i have the blues whites and blue pieds, they go up to 50 by the first of the first of next year, i love hatching eggs very much and have had great luck with incubators and broody chicken hens, i also sell hatching eggs 4 for 25 dollars for folks that want to hatch their own.
