I have a neighbor that is going on vacation. He wants me to take care of his newly hatched peachick. This is the 1st one he has ever hatched out! The problem is ....I know nothing about peachicks! What do I need to know about them? If something was to happen to this chick, I would feel really bad (while running for my life) :|

I have read that new hatched pea chicks are extremely fragile. I would not want to be responsible for someone else's chicks. Good luck with this.

I agree with MissPrissy. They are very delicate - how long is your friend going to be gone? Has this chick learned to eat yet? ?THAT is the biggest challenge with peachicks. If the chick is already eating good then you will probably be OK - if the chick is only a couple days old I don't think I would want that responsibility....

ETA: I have raised peafowl before and have hatched and successfully raised many over the years. I just lost a chick a couple days ago because I couldn't teach it to eat.....

Keep them warm, fed and watered and hope for the best.

They are quite fragile. If his chick has been on the ground for at least a week though, you'll probably be OK. It's the first few days especially when they are vunerable - you have to teach them to peck and know what's food, etc.

They have to have much higher protein than chicken chicks, but I'm assuming you'll be given the appropriate food and instructions before beginning the baby sittting duties.

Good luck!!

My peachicks have always ate chicken starter, the very tiny crumbles. I also dye it green( any bright color) with food coloring to attract their attention and it helps knowing if they've eaten (green color in poo) Also put marbles in water to attract them to it also. mine have always been pretty hardy little guys.
