Peep is now sleeping outside in his pen under the tree. He flies on top of the little nest boxes (we got the pen at the feed store, it was made for chickens) and he sleeps there. He likes to fly in and out of the boxes and sleep there during the day, which reminds me I have to clean out those boxes.

The three younger peachicks are still small enough to fit through the fencing, but we probably are going to add chicken wire to the pen anyways. We put the little ones in there sometimes during the day and we can see them out the window. Since the pen is a nice size they can get away from Peep if he gets a little mean and pecks at them. So far it is going well. They get food and water when Peep is up in the box sleeping and when Peep is down eating and drinking they are sleeping or playing around. The little peachicks don't really seem to try to get out unless if you try and catch them, then they go crazy and sometimes squeeze through the fence. Peep gets to walk around on the ground sometimes. I would never trust the little peachicks to do that because they are not bonded to me but with Peep it is different. I let him eat some grass and walk around. I point at plants I see the adult peafowl eat and he eats them and likes them so it is pretty good. He loves eating weeds, maybe that is why my parents want him to free-range here.

The little white chicks are brother and sister. Ether I have one boy and two girls or two boys and one girl...One of them I am just not sure what it is. We have two marked with markers on their shoulder. One is red, one is green, and the other has no mark. The Red one is the biggest, and fights the most when I try to catch it. Plus it has the biggest feet so I think that is a male. The green one I am not sure about. For a while the green one seemed big, but it has small feet and is starting too look a little smaller. The unmarked one is the smallest with small feet and is the calmest one. Also it doesn't seem to be as yellow looking as the other two. I think that one is a girl and I have already named her Goldilocks.
Here they are eating.

One of the logs in the pen tips when they get on that little branch. Then when one hops off the thing tips back. They get on the end a lot and make it tip and they all flap around. I wonder if it is like a little game to them?

Here is one trying to keep it's balance.

I was down on my knees taking pictures of Peep and when I got up I had grass on my legs. Peep was already really close to me, and when I stood up he stood on my foot. Then he noticed that I had grass on my leg and gently pecked it off and ate it. He is so cute!

beautiful photos
Ya know i got my new baby peas on the 4th and put them in my 10 by 30 pea ground pen and i go in there alot ,i noticed with this batch they are much calmer that my first batch as they walk right under my feet now.
I think that when they are in a small brooder pen they feel threatened as they can not get away but in the ground pen they do not feel that way so if you are able to have them out of a small pen where they can walk around you as they choose they will be much calmer, also i have already started teaching them to herd like my older peas so it will be much easer to keep up with them when i turn them loose in a few months.

Our peachicks jump on each others backs too when they are in the small cage, when we moved them into the big pen, we provided places for them to fly or jump on, and I havent noticed them jumping on each other

I changed Red to Blue because I didn't want the red dot to be distracting to the others, although I never saw him being picked on...I am starting to get a bit more worried about when I have to take them in and out of the pen. They are getting to be such good fliers that they flap all around and if they get out of my hands they can fly pretty far. Unlike Peep they don't stay put for me to get them they run away and I have to chase after them and grab them.

I hold them every now and then to try and get them to get used to me but it isn't really working.
