I've read through all the postings and have tears streaming down my face. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've fortunately not lost any of my peacocks but know I'll be a basket case when it happens which it will eventually. I had 2 young peachicks that became sick at different times and not knowing what to do I took them to Wildlife Rescue knowing I couldn't deal with them passing in my charge. The process there doesn't lend to my having found out if they made it in the hands of volunteer vets. A very good friend that has a llama ranch has told me through the years she's realized that sometimes they just die. There can be so many reasons for it....best to just accept it and move on. She tells me this but still cries her eyes out when any of her animals/pets die. Recently she lost Pappa George and Oscar, llamas she'd raised from babies. A vet was called in, they were treated and cared for but a specific reason for their death was not known. We're praying her remaining llama's will be ok and so far it's looking good. My prayers are with you and your birds. Your grief comes across loud and clear ... wish I could reach out and give you a big hug. Like someone else said, don't beat yourself up over this. If you research all the diseases/conditions birds/animals can have it will boggle you mind. We can only do the best we can for them and know they had a good safe loving home while they were with us. Hopefully the tests will give you some answers. I'm on another peafowl line and have read that drastic turns in weather can take quite a toll on animals. I keep fans on my peas during exceptionally hot weather and they always have pans of water to stand in and cool off. In the winter I have a some heat lights they can roost under but keep looking for better ways. I've kept and raised 6 of my hatched peachicks over the past 2 years bringing my count to 14 with 11 free ranging All my peas eat from my hand and follow me around. The 3 youngest that are 7 months old now won't even leave my husband alone when he's working in the garage, LOL!! He chases them out and within minutes they are back underfoot. One of them jumps up in my lap and lets me pet her and pulls things out of my pocket. They are all pets I love dearly so can imagine what you are going through. I'll be watching to see what the test results are. Once again, I'm so sorry.
